A branched aromatic hydrocarbon fluid

Application

Infineum N9306 is a medium viscosity, branched alkyl-aryl hydrocarbon with iso-paraffinic side chains. As a consequence of this well-defined alkyl–aryl structure, Infineum N9306 exhibits exceptional solvency power coupled with low health and safety impact. It is produced using a highly controlled manufacturing process which results in a hydrocarbon fluid possessing high purity and consistency of composition. As a consequence, it has the potential to be used for a wide range of industrial applications, including factory plant lubricants, process oils and industrial cleaners. Infineum N9306 can be used either alone or in combination with low polarity base fluids to improve solvency characteristics. Infineum N9306 is complemented by Infineum N9305 and Infineum N9307; Infineum N9305 and Infineum N9307 approximate to ISO VG 7 and ISO VG 15 respectively.

When combined with either Infineum N9305 or Infineum N9307, Infineum N9306 is suitable for the formulation of lower viscosity grades of refrigerator compressor lubricants. Generally, such combinations are suitable for use in direct expansion systems utilizing refrigerant gases of the HCFC type e.g. R22 and mixtures based upon R22, such as R402A and R402B, used for retro-fitment of systems previously using CFC refrigerant gases. Infineum N9305 is also suitable for the formulation of refrigerator compressor lubricants used in conjunction with ammonia as the refrigerant gas. It is not suitable for use with HFC refrigerant gases although compatibility may be improved sufficiently for selected applications by combination with other synthetic base fluids. Other potential applications for Infineum N9306 include thermal transfer fluids, process oils and metalworking fluids.

Key Features

  • High solvency power and complete compatibility with conventional petroleum mineral oil making it particularly suitable for cleaning products and retrofitting applications where mineral oil was previously used
  • Excellent compatibility and low temperature miscibility with a range of refrigerant gases and has a wider application range than conventional naphthenic petroleum mineral oil
  • Superior low temperature characteristics as a consequence of the specially-designed branching of the alkyl side groups
  • A hydrocarbon which combines low health and safety impact in the workplace with aryl characteristics
  • Can be blended in all proportions with Infineum N9305 and Infineum N9307 to produce intermediate viscosity grades

Handling / Precautions

Infineum N9306 should be stored in a cool, dry location within a building away from sources of heat and ignition. Containers should be kept tightly sealed when not in use. Care should be taken to ensure that containers are not exposed directly to the weather or to extremes of temperature.

The recommended storage temperature is +10°C to +35°C; storage temperatures of up to a maximum of 40°C may be tolerated on a short-term basis only.

Prolonged and repeated contact with the skin should be avoided and good standards of industrial and personal hygiene maintained throughout all handling and storage activities.
